INGL-3425: Teaching and Writing

In this electronic portfolio, you will be able to find my works and accomplishments from my Teaching and Writing English course. You can find worksheets, mini-lessons, and helpful materials that can be used when teaching writing. Writing is one of the most important skills a human being can have. Through writing, we can document, express, and inform, making it crucial for humankind. Writing is a skill needed in all jobs and professions, no matter how big or small they may be. It is our job as educators to provide our students with the proper writing skills and techniques that they need to become proficient writers. Not everyone wants to write for a living and become a writer, but everyone needs writing to earn a job. We must show our students the benefits of writing and how it is used on a daily basis. Most students see writing as a skill they only need for school and not as a skill that extends beyond the school's four walls. It is important to always incorporate writing assignments into your class and discuss them. This way, students will develop their writing skills, and if they have any doubts, you can clarify them. When I was back in grade school, writing was not a skill that we had developed, and most teachers expected you to write properly, but no one took the time to teach us how. By the time I entered university, I was left with many struggles and had to face many trials and errors that could have been avoided. That is why it is crucial to include writing in the classroom. Writing is one of my favorite things to do. I aspire to be a writer someday, and this course really helped me understand the many writing techniques that exist. Even though this is a course meant for teachers who will be teaching students how to write, I was able to learn too; after all, we are all students in one way or another. I loved the book for this course since it was short, and it explained everything in a simple way for us to understand and use as a guide. I have to admit that it was very hard to communicate with both classmates and professors since the whole online classes were a very big obstacle. This was also my first time taking classes focused on education, so I was very lost when it came to making mini-lessons or handouts. I was very overwhelmed with all the writing and assignments that we had to do for this course, but I tried my best. After all, life is all about trial and error, but I will surely treasure everything I learned in this course.
