A linguist landscape was a one of the assignments for the Introduction to Linguistic theory class, we where to look for places where language is, take pictures and analyze them. The place that I decided to analyze was the book store, a safe place for language, after all books are the safe keepers of it. I was able to analyze the importance and contributions that bookstores has, not only for language but for ourselves. I was able to see all the different types of books available for sale and the strategic way the store was organize in order to meet the needs of its customers. From Japanese style graphic novels (Mangas) to classical books. Books in both English and Spanish, books for young and older generations, books on books, all at hands reach. I noticed how a coffee shop is available for you to buy beverages and enjoy the companionship of a book. I was able to hear the language the costumers speak and the books that they seek. I was able to see how language was exchange. For a moment I was able to see how the bookstore comes alive and how language is spoken like a catchy song. Making me realize that language is alive as long as we are.
