In the class INGL-3201: Grammar, Composition, Reading, we delved into a wide array of writing styles and explored the fundamental importance of grammar, composition, and reading as interconnected disciplines. Throughout the course, we discovered that these elements are often overlooked, primarily due to their perceived complexity and the rigorous rules that govern them. However, it became increasingly clear that mastering these skills serves as a powerful toolkit, capable of significantly enhancing the way individuals present themselves to the world. The ability to communicate effectively through writing is essential in today’s professional landscape, transcending the boundaries of those solely focused on grammar or language studies. In fact, these skills are vital for success in virtually every career path, whether one is in business, science, technology, or the arts. One of the standout projects for me in this class was the memoir assignment centered around our names. This project was not only engaging but also deeply personal, as it encouraged us to reflect on the stories behind our names and what they signify in our lives. Through research, introspection, and creative writing, I learned a great deal about the origins and meanings of my name, as well as the cultural and familial connections it holds. This experience illuminated how a name can carry immense power and significance, shaping our identities and influencing how we are perceived by others. Furthermore, it highlighted the importance of narrative in our lives, showcasing how storytelling can bridge personal experiences with broader themes that resonate with others. The memoir project ultimately reinforced the idea that our names are more than mere labels; they are integral to our sense of self and play a crucial role in our personal narratives.
