In the class EDPE-4005: Seminar and Curriculum of Learning at the Secondary Level we were required to do 10 hours of observations hours and 5 hours of demonstrative class where we planned and prepared the lesson plan for five days. For day five the students used a pamphlet that they have been working and answering for the past four days to review and answer a Kahoot game. The pamphlet consists of all the definition and examples needed for the test review and the Kahoot game. The Kahoot game was meant to test the students’ knowledge on the material and although the students had the definitions and previous examples from the pamphlet, the game had trick questions and new exercises. I planned the first four days to introduce the main themes to the students (Types of Sentences, Punctuation Marks, and Conjunctions) and by day five a review of the previous days. From previous observations I noticed that the students reacted quite motivated and interested when playing educational games, so I opted to use an educational game (Kahoot) as a review. The students had been working on a Pamphlet where they took notes and did exercises related to the theme of the class, and before I did the educational game, I tried to discuss the pamphlet with the students but quickly notice some resistance. I tired asking question and getting them to answer but students focus was elsewhere that is when I decided to discuss the handout by having students read their answers out loud, students read the answers and I introduced the game, as soon as I introduced the game student’s attention was again caught and they were motivated to participated. They all logged in to the game and quickly started answering, I encouraged them to use their pamphlet as reference and the game flowed quite well. After every slide with questions, I will discuss the slide with the correct answer and clarify any doubts that the students might had. By the end of the game the observing teacher had granted me the permission to give 3 bonus point to those on the first, second and third place. I was quite satisfied with how the five days of classes went, I wanted to ensure that my students had everything they needed on hand, hence the pamphlet, when they were to review and study for their upcoming test and Kahoot game. The idea of making a learning pamphlet arise, when I found myself on budget, I was to provide all the printed materials for the students, and I needed a way to stick to my budget while meeting the needs of my students. The pamphlet was a miraculous solution, I was able to provide for all my students and stay on a budget. As a soon to be teacher I want to provide my students with every material I can find that can encourage them to engage more in their learning, but that comes with a price, that is often higher than an all-time student can afford. However, with a little budgeting and some upcycling you can always find a way to motivate your students. The Kahoot game was a great technological source that the students enjoyed engaging with and they already had the materials required for the use of the game (mobile devices). I learned many things from this experience but one that has stuck with me is, that less is more, therefore work with what you have and listen to your student’s needs.
